Sokcho City is taking a bold step to establish its port as a premier cruise hub in the Pan-East Sea region by launching the "2026 Sokcho Homeport Cruise Experience Program." This initiative, organized in partnership with Gangwon State, the Gangwon Tourism Organization, and Lotte Tour, aims to raise public awareness of the cruise industry and provide locals with a first-hand look at the luxury cruise experience.

The program has significantly expanded this year, with a total of 300 participants—150 from Sokcho and 150 from across Gangwon State—set to be selected. Applications will be accepted from February 13 to February 27, 2026. Those chosen will board the Costa Serena, a massive 110,000-ton luxury vessel, departing from Sokcho Port on May 12.

The 6-day, 5-night itinerary includes visits to Hokkaido’s most scenic destinations, Otaru and Hakodate, before concluding the journey at Busan Port on May 17. To ensure a seamless experience, chartered buses will be provided to transport participants from Busan back to Sokcho. Selected ambassadors will benefit from a 50% discount on the standard fare, paying approximately 1.42 million KRW (excluding onboard tips).

The recruitment process has seen overwhelming interest in previous years. In 2024, the debut program saw nearly 20 times more applicants than available slots, and the enthusiasm continued into 2025. This year’s expansion reflects Sokcho’s commitment to becoming one of South Korea’s top seven cruise port cities.

Mayor Lee Byung-sun highlighted the significance of the program, stating, "This experience will not only provide unforgettable memories for our residents but also serve as a pivotal moment for Sokcho Port to secure its position as a center for the global cruise industry. We hope our citizens rediscover the value of our port through this journey."

Eligible adults residing in Sokcho or Gangwon State can apply in teams of two via the Lotte Tour application page, linked through the Sokcho City Hall website. Final selections will be made through a random public lottery, with results announced on March 3.
