Goseong County, a region uniquely divided between North and South since the 1950 Korean War, is set to become a global stage for peace. The county announced that it is co-planning an international peace culture festival, tentatively titled the "Peace Techno Festa," at Hwajinpo Beach in collaboration with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Seoul.

This partnership bridges two regions with a shared history of national division and reunification. By utilizing the universal language of culture, Goseong and Germany aim to broadcast a powerful message of peace to the international community.

Techno: A Symbol of Unity and Freedom

German techno culture is more than just music; it is an intangible cultural asset that emerged spontaneously in Berlin following the fall of the Berlin Wall. It has long been evaluated as a symbol of freedom, solidarity, and coexistence, helping to heal the scars of division in unified German society. Goseong County plans to re-examine these historical meanings at the DMZ border, expanding the discourse on Korean Peninsula peace into a global conversation.

The proposed festival program includes:

International Performances: Performances by renowned German techno artists.

Artist Talks & Discussions: Panels focused on the role of culture in division and reunification.

Cultural Content: Programs illuminating the Berlin cultural scene post-reunification.

Interactive Events: Citizen-led cultural activities centered on peace and sustainability.

Becoming a Hub for Global Cultural Exchange

"This festival is a new attempt to talk about peace through music in Goseong, a symbolic border region," a Goseong County official stated. "Starting with this collaboration with the German Embassy, we will develop Goseong into a hub for global peace and cultural exchange."

The German Embassy also expressed high expectations, noting, "Techno is a vital asset representing the socio-cultural changes after German reunification. This collaboration with Goseong will be a meaningful project to share Germany’s experience of unity as a message of peace."

Goseong County intends to launch this festival as a pilot project in the second half of this year, with plans to gradually expand international peace and cultural exchange programs in the future.
